Here’s how to do it, step by step.

1. Download the Basic Box Footprint Templates & Cut Out the Pieces

Print them on standard 8.5" x 11" paper, then cut out the shapes. Each shape represents the footprint of one of our Basic Boxes.

These templates are your “puzzle pieces” — they let you design your layout in real space before committing to the boxes themselves. If you're working with a larger space you may want to print and cut out a couple of sets of templates.

2. Measure Your Space

Start by measuring the inside of the space you want to organize — drawers, shelves, carts, desktop trays, even bathroom or kitchen drawers.
Write down the width, depth, and height.
This is your foundation. Once you know your dimensions, you can build a layout that fits like it was made for you.

If a shelf or other space is hard to work in, you can mark the dimensions on a tabletop or any flat surface and build your layout there instead.

3. Lay Out the Templates in Your Space

Now the fun begins.

Place the cut‑out templates inside your drawer, on your shelf, or in your cart. Slide them around. Try different combinations. Mix and match until everything clicks into place. Remember that you can "create" a box where there isn't one by leaving a space - this is the magic of using the Creative Connector Tool and Clips.

Once your layout is confirmed, remove the test items and take a picture of the layout - this will make it easy to recreate the layout with actual boxes.

Once you’ve found the perfect configuration, make a list of the box sizes you used in your layout.
